Winnipeg's Illustrated Rock History - Part 3: Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time

The Mantae: Gary Squires, Leslie Moore, Ian Lowe, Alana Hammond, Tom Thompson, Danny Payne.

Date: April 22, 1967

Mood Jga Jga: Hermann Fruehm, Ian Gardiner, Gord Osland, and Greg Leskiw ... and a miniature horse?!

Photographer: Jim Walker; Date: October 28, 1975

Sounds of Silence (left to right): Ernie Kull, Dave Westmacott, Bob Finnbogason, Dave King, and Gord Beverage.  Judging from this photo, I'm guessing they got their band name from audience reactions.

Date: January 7, 1967

Bluegrass band New Tradition (left to right): Gene Bretecher, Harold Mills, and Lynda Mills.  I'm not sure where the stage ends and the band begins!

  1. Just so you know, I'm pretty sure that should be Gord Beveridge in the Sounds of Silence -- he is, hilariously, a prof at the U of W now.

  2. SOS kicked ass...I remember listening to that tape growing up...my Dad Ernie Kull is the reason I play guitar! I grew up with Bob and Gord in my house as a child and they are some of the best memories I have.

    Cheers, Jason Kull

  3. I took a class with Gord Beveridge at the U of W. He looks older and balder now, but there's no mistaking him. Good prof and very funny guy, and apparently a local pop star! Nice find.
